The Full Story

Debbie Del Rey, a versatile performing artist specialising in singing, burlesque, and cabaret, embarked on her artistic journey years ago. It all began with singing lessons, igniting her passion for performance. Joining 'The London International Gospel Choir,' an inclusive and unauditioned ensemble, marked the start of her adventure into the world of performing arts. Furthering her skills, Debbie completed 'The Art of Drag' course with Michael Twaits and made her debut as "Debbie," later embracing the twin persona "Britney Del Rey" in the realm of burlesque, with guidance from Little Lady Luscious. Remarkably, The Albany, where she debuted both Debbie and Britney, evolved into her cherished West London "Vegas" residency.

Debbie and Britney Del Rey exist as the fictional older sisters of the well-known singer Lana Del Rey. Despite their shared family ties, Lana harbours a strong dislike for them, primarily stemming from their habit of performing her songs with their unique interpretations. Lana finds their renditions to be not only cringe-worthy but also intensely embarrassing. The sisters' creative endeavours, which involve putting their distinctive spin on Lana's music, contribute to a strained relationship with the renowned singer, creating a dynamic filled with both familial connection and artistic discord.

Despite her diverse artistic expressions, Debbie doesn't classify herself as a drag queen, preferring the term "artiste." While she doesn't take offense if referred to as a drag queen, Debbie sees this aspect as an extension of her authentic self. Rather than adopting a character, she dresses to accentuate her natural beauty, emphasizing that she is not pretending to be a woman. As a transgender woman living in her male body and being assumed a gay man, Debbie grappled with the concept of 'drag' but now views it as an intricate part of her multifaceted identity. The personas of Debbie and Britney serve as extensions of her personality but do not encapsulate the core of the woman within. It's a complex journey that one truly comprehends only by experiencing it first-hand. Debbie epitomizes the perfect fusion of the best aspects of both male and female, creating a captivating diva.

The 'Debbie Does' shows showcase various talents from the diverse circle of friends she has made along her artistic journey. Reflecting on the past years, Debbie expresses,

"These past five years have been the strangest success, beyond my wildest dreams!"

Six years ago, Debbie crossed paths with the film director Lex Melony, marking the beginning of a fruitful collaboration. In the span of their partnership, Debbie has been featured in two of Melony's projects, notably starring as herself in the recent short film "Hold Me Tight," which garnered widespread acclaim and numerous awards. This success has not only elevated Debbie's profile but has also taken her to various international film festivals, allowing her to jet-set around the world.

More recently, Debbie and Lex Melony joined forces once again, this time venturing into the realm of film festival organization. Together, they are actively involved in creating a London-based LGBTQA+ film festival. This ground-breaking event aims to showcase emerging artists within the community, with awards presented for excellence in directing, writing, performing, and visual production. Their collaborative efforts seek to provide a platform for up-and-coming talents in the vibrant and diverse landscape of LGBTQA+ cinema.
